2011-2012 |
FTC Bowled Over! & FRC Rebound Rumble.
|
Team Captain: Thomas Brown
This season's games were FTC's Bowled Over, a game with a bowling theme and Rebound Rumble, a basketball-themed game. At both FTC and FRC events, 2408 became eliminated in the semi-final and quarter-final matches. So close!
2011-2012 was a rough, but interesting season for 2408. With all of the seniors graduated and several members leaving, only three members of the original nine were left. Over the course of the year, many students joined, totaling a team count of about twenty: 2408 was a rookie team all over again, with three veterans and over fifteen students who had never experienced FIRST Robotics before. Talk about rebirth!
In the fall of 2011, 2408 began being filmed by the Higher Education Channel of St. Louis for their interstitial show, Innovations Presents Mindsport. You can view this program online for free at www.hectv.org. 2408 was also periodically filmed by The Boeing Company for their website in the spring of 2012.
One of the team's members, Tim S, began mentoring Wedgwood Elementary's FLL team, 388. This served as a spark to ignite volunteering opportunities in the future.
This year brought in no official awards or recognition for the team--it was tough being a rookie team all over again. However, for rookies, the Shrapnel Sergeants did very well--reaching semi-finals in FTC, and quarter-finals in FRC! This year is seen as successful regardless of the fact that they didn't attend World Championship in that all of the team's rookies gained valuable experience, revving the gears up for next season. It was truly a season for growth and rebirth.
