2007-2008 |
FTC Quad Quandary & FRC FIRST Overdrive.
|
Team Captain: David Dotson
Went on after graduation to study physics at Missouri University of Science & Technology and Arizona State University.
Team 2408 began as FTC Team number 121 and FRC Team number 2408. These early days of 2408 were coached by a teacher who is no longer in district, and because very little was documented in this year, not much is known about our team's rookie year. The only documentation or archived information related to this year that we have about our team is an old, mostly empty engineering notebook for Quad Quandary and archived FRC match footage via The Blue Alliance.
Above is a low-resolution image of our FRC Robot that year, whose name was, according to a former team member, "Myrtle The Turtle." The team was a maximum of seven students. Quad Quandary revolved around placing rings around the playing field, and FIRST Overdrive was a racing sort of game involving herding large trackballs and notably replaced the traditional Autonomous period with an interesting "Hybrid Period." The Shrapnel Sergeants, then known as "Hazelwood West Robotics", placed moderately well for a rookie team.
The robot that 2408 had built, pictured above, focused on racing around, and was a simple chassis that was extremely speed-efficient. It was the first year for the team--a year to explore, become familiar, and introduce everybody on the team, as well as our school, to FIRST Robotics.
The team participated in the BotBall competition this year and this year only, and from some research we have found this old team picture from that competition, shown below. The Hazelwood West Robotics Team placed 2nd out of 11 teams.
